Strategy, Web Design & Responsive Web Development

Introduction

Brand'Art is a South African music and technology agency that supports musicians in monetising their work, and works with brands to develop cultural capital through perfectly suited artists. In order to address the issues of its target audience, it makes use of data analytics and insights, strategy, and technology. We began by understanding their target audience, business objective, competition, and the context in which they operate as a brand before attempting to solve their problem. Based on our findings, we designed and built a responsive website with a Content Management System (CMS) in the form of a blog.

Our Role

We provided an end-to-end role beginning with Strategy Development, Web Design, and Web Development using the low-code tool, Webflow. Throughout the project's lifecycle, we worked together with the client to ensure that we upheld both their expectations and our project management. As an agency that is passionate about accessibility, we always take the time to inform and educate our clients about its importance.

Customer Pain Point

Lack of valuable information for artists, and brands on how to leverage music

A majority of music artists fail to fully monetise their music, and brands struggle with finding the perfect matching artists to partner with, and harness the power of music.

Brand’Art does not have a digital marketing asset in form of an official website

Brand’Art required a website and blog as digital marketing tools for generating useful content for its target audience, connecting the website with its online presence through social media, and delivering a positive user experience that will increase sales.

Goal

Communicate Brand’Art’s value proposition

Simplifying, and clarifying the messaging for the target audience.

Create a sales funnel

Using insights, strategy, and technology to provide value in the form of a blog, newsletter, and a clear value proposition to the target audience

Drive artists and brands to Brand’Art’s website, and social media

Attract potential artists, brands and the larger creative economy network to be part of the Brand’Art ecosystem.

Impact

We launched the website on 06 September 2022. Our client was content for us to only share that their sales conversion increased by 42% in 21 days when compared to relying solely on social media for online presence.

Ideation and Design Challenges

Visual language vs Accessible Design

Although we are maintaining client confidentiality, the client was delighted for us to highlight the benefits of adhering to the Web Content Accessibility Fundamentals.

Orange with the hexadecimal value (hex code) #FF4500 was part of the original brand's colour scheme. To quickly identify this colour, think Sound Cloud. The usage of white writing on orange presented a user experience (UX) design challenge because of its effects on people with visual impairments. Orange was to be utilised as an accent colour to generate a strong visual appeal because it perfectly embodied the client's brand spirit. The objective is to constantly achieve a high contrast between the background and font colours so that your content is readable in all types of weather and lighting conditions.

Brand Colour Palette

The client not only considered inclusive design for good user experience, but the new brand colours instilled a new form of energy into the brand essence.

User Interface Components

While other companies might ignore these aspects, MIKANO Design & Tech is a company that is committed to incorporating accessible design within its design strategy. Furthermore, we recognise that a potential change in brand colours may affect the client's capacity to reach a wider target population by taking inclusive design into account.

We went through the process of further educating ourselves and conducting desktop research on the subject of "the use of white text on bright orange background". Seeking to comprehend the impact on visually challenged users, as well as the global adoption of standards.

The client's decision to change the Red-orange or Orangered brand colour to Crimson hex code #E61353 was probably the project's high point for us and the client.

Development

We designed a responsive website for a great user experience. In terms of development, the website was developed in Webflow for the reasons outlined below:

· Giving our client more power. Allowing them the ability to easily edit or manage the Blog or CMS section without having to hire separate services for the task. This is most advantageous for the client because the Blog or CMS section is where the most value for their target audience is created.

· Efficiency in terms of time to launch, without compromising functionality, and performance.

Testing

In order to fulfil our commitment to the client, we continue to test and track user behaviour in terms of analytics. This will help the client determine how to best serve its target audience. The website was built with search engine optimization (SEO) in mind to increase the company's visibility.

Client Testimonial

"Working with MIKANO has been a refreshing experience. From the get-go, they took us through their onboarding process, which mapped out clear processes and deliverables, simplifying a complex brief from our side. This reflected a strategic understanding of our needs. We particularly liked MIKANO’s approach to accessibility design, and found it critical for our target market, which includes artists. We have no hesitation in recommending them to others."
